Titelaufdruck. * Eins von 250 numerierten Exemplaren der Ausgabe B, Text und Holzschnitte auf gelblich getöntem deutschen Bütten. Das erste Vollbild trägt die Unterschrift von Max Slevogt. Das Werk gehört in die vierte Reihe der "Neuen Bilderbücher" des Verlages Fritz Gurlitt, Berlin und wurde im Jahre 1921 in der Original Holländischen Renaissance, der Text zusammen mit den zwanzig Originalholzstöcken, von der Offizin Drugulin in Leipzig gedruckt. Die Bindearbeiten besorgte die Buchbinderei Sperling in Berlin. Rücken am oberen Kapital und Lederkanten minimal abgerieben, ansonsten tadelloses Exemplar. - Max Slevogt (1868-1932) hatte 1894 den portugiesischen Sänger Francisco d`Andrade als "Don Juan" im Münchner Nationaltheater erlebt. Dieses Opernerlebnis inspirierte ihn in den folgenden Jahren zu mehreren Gemälde-Varianten mit der Darstellung des ". Herrenmensch[en], der alle quält. und doch durch seinen bezwingenden, überschäumenden Übermut alle an sich fesselt." (Slevogt in "Melos"). Ab 1912 entstanden nun die Zeichnungen zu diesem Buch, die Reinhold Hoberg dann in Holz schnitt. 1924 schließlich bekam der Künstler von der Dresdner Staatsoper den Auftrag, Bühnenentwürfe für eine "Don Giovanni"-Inszenierung zu zeichnen. (Die entsprechenden Lithographien erschienen noch im gleichen Jahr bei Paul Cassirer in Berlin).…
