William Green (1760-1823) was an English artist, poet, writer, and landscape painter, who made images mainly of the Lake District, determined to make them "adhere as faithfully as possible to nature." His biographer, Charles Roeder, stated: "his novel method is notable, as the artists have all a conventional and uniform style in regard to the representation of mountains. Those of Mr Green are veritable mountains; he says that he knows their anatomy and he is undoubtedly right. William Green was born in Manchester in 1761. He began his career as a surveyor and moved to London to study engraving. He later settled in the Lake District, the subject of many of his works. He can probably be identified as the same Wililam Green who exhibited landscape paintings at the Royal Academy between 1797 and 1801. He died in Ambleside in 1823. This book is an authoritative appreciation of the artist and his work, lavishly illustrated with colour and black and white reproductions of the artists paintings and sketches. Ref ZZ 1. Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - 'The Prophetic Writings of William Blake' provides a comprehensive journey into the profound and complex visionary works of one of England's most singular literary and artistic figures. This volume serves as a meticulous presentation of Blake's symbolic universe, capturing the intricate mythologies and spiritual revelations that define his later career. As a central figure of the Romantic movement, Blake's prophetic books represent a radical departure from the conventions of his time, blending epic poetry with deep philosophical and theological inquiry.Readers will encounter the rich tapestry of characters and concepts-such as Urizen, Los, and Enitharmon-that populate Blake's unique cosmology. The text delves into themes of creative freedom, the struggle against institutional oppression, and the search for divine imagination. This collection provides essential insight into the developmental arc of Blake's thought, making it an invaluable resource for scholars of English literature, students of mysticism, and admirers of visionary art. By engaging with these dense and rewarding texts, one gains a deeper understanding of the revolutionary spirit that sought to redefine the boundaries of the human soul and the nature of reality itself. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
