Original full calf leather binding; rubbed and scuffed boards worn along edges particularly at/near bumped corners with residual evidence of now mostly gone gilt tooling, patch of surface leather loss at front board's lower right, spine has shallow loss at heel with some surface abrasion lengthwise causing flaking loss to gilt bars, library shelf number handwritten in white ink near spine heel, shallow edge loss to spine's rubbed light brown title label but with gilt lettering still intact and reasonably bright. Text block edges toned. Several quires slightly pulled but binding still firm. Some foxing throughout; first several leaves creased at top corners; light moisture stains to rear leaves; rear flyleaf creased at bottom corner; rear free endpaper verso has handwritten pencil list of University of Alabama sophomores in 1836. University of Alabama College of Education Library bookplate on front pastedown; library pencil notation on page ii; library ink number stamp on page iii and repeated at bottom margin of page 51; no other library markings readily apparent upon a quick perusal.

Condizione: FINE. Facsimile edition. The first brochure - "An Important Address to Wives and Mothers" - was originally published by O. Hodgson, London in 1830. Illustrated with a colored frontispiece. 39 pp. The second - "A present to be given to teeming women by their husbands, or friends: containing directions for women with child : how to prepare for the hour of travail : written first for the private use of a gentlewoman of quality, and now published for the common good" by John Oliver was printed and sold by Benjamin Harris in 1694. 28 pp. And the third - "An abridgement of the practice of midwifery and a set of anatomical tables with explanations collected from the works of the celebrated W.Smellie. M.D." is a facsimile of the Boston 1786 edition. 56 pp plus many full page drawings. None of these facsimiles have any modern publication information except for a small code on the lower left corner of the back cover. All are rather hard to find now All three are in fine condition in brown or tan stapled wrappers. The cover of the first pamphlet has been die-cut to reproduce the large chips and wear on the original.
