A fascinating and comprehensive study of British Diatomaceae by the Rev. William Smith. With remarks on the algae's structure, functions, and distribution, as well as a guide to its collection and preservation. Rebound in half calf binding over marbled boards, with five raised bands, gilt tooling to spine. Externally smart with minor shelf wear, minor rubbing to extremities of boards and spine, lightly sunned to spine. Small strip with details on this work tipped in to recto front free blank page. Internally, generally firmly bound. Light spotting scattered only to occasional leaf, particularly leaves of plates and pages facing leaves of plates.
