Er leitete ehrenamtlich das schulpolitische Kampfblatt "Roland" und schrieb unter seinem Pseudonym Jürgen Brand Erzählungen, Gedichte und reformpädagogische Abhandlungen. Aus seinen Gedichten entstanden später teilweise Hymnen der Arbeiterjugend wie "Wir sind jung, die Welt ist offen" u.a. Durch seine kritische Haltung dem damaligen Staat gegenüber, geriet er häufig mit den Schulbehörden in Konflikt und wurde mehrmals entlassen. Von 1919 bis 1933 und nach der NS-Zeit nochmals von 1945/46 war er Direktor der Strafanstalt Olslebshausen in Bremen. Sprache: de.
