Published in London in 1846, this is the unauthorised pirated British First Edition of these two stories, the first "Fanny Campbell, The Female Pirate Captain", a story set during the American Revolution, following a woman named Fanny Campbell who disguises herself as a man, and goes to sea to rescue her captures fiancé, she ultimately becomes the commander of a pirate ship. When it was first published in Boston in 1844 it subsequently became massively popular. Many people cited her exploits as being real history, but historians have confirmed the book as being entirely fictional. Also included in the book is the First Edition of a second novel "Eulalie Pontois; or, The Stolen Will" by French author Frederic Soulie, which centres on a missing or stolen inheritance. The book is bound in the original embossed patterned cloth, a small pocket sized format measuring 5 inches by 3 inches approx., 444 pages across the two works, illustrated with a woodcut frontispiece. CONDITION Mild bubbling to cloth, minor fraying at spine ends, gilt worn on one letter of the title block as seen, internally a contemporary ownership inscription to front endpaper, browning and marking to a few pages' else contents in good general condition. A generally very good example of the exceptionally scarce British First Edition which had a very low print run.…
