He was seen as a scholar of light and color who explored minimalism in radical new ways. Angelo de Sousa, along with Armando Alves, Jorge Pinheiro and José Rodrigues, became part of a group known as "Os Quatro Vintes" (The Four Twenties). Angelo de Sousa had his first solo exhibition in 1959 and since then his works have been shown worldwide. In 1975 he received the International Prize of the 13th Sao Paulo Art Biennial and in 2007 the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation presented him with the Gulbenkian Prize.******.

It is a work of cultural and educational vulgarization, of great interest for the study of the situation and work of women in 20th century Portugal, focusing on the collection and critical commentary on the traditions and lifestyles of women in the countryside and in the city, on the mainland and on the islands. It is the result of the author's contacts with women from all walks of life, from Minho to the Algarve and the islands of Madeira and Azores. It offers an impressive and comprehensive portrayal of the situation of women in the country at that time, describing peasant women, sailors, workers, maids and domestic workers, their problems and mentalities. The book also contains reflections on women's political rights, single mothers, female prostitution, sports, institutions and the emotional and moral qualities of Portuguese women. This book is fundamental to the history of national feminism because it expresses a passionate commitment to improving the living conditions and dignity of Portuguese women at a time of widespread socio-political oppression. 1st edition, very good. The spine has been expertly re-backed.
