Aggiungi al carrelloNo Binding. Condizione: Good. 1st Edition. Colour printed paper map 76x60cm. Good, neatly folded, with wear to the edges, rubbing to folds, and some marks. Compiled and drawn by No.1 SPC.RE (Survey Production Centre, Royal Engineers) in 1961 from several charts dated 1956-60, and printed by them in May 1962. This was issued to support remote British imperial ground and air operations at a time of escalating tribal unrest. Bounded by Marib and beyond (NW) and the Gulf of Aden (SE), it shows a remote part of Yemen and the Aden Protectorate, their border "undefined - alignment approximate" running roughly N-S to the left of centre. An inset boundary map shows it covers two Yemeni Provinces (Sana'a, Ibb) and 8 Protected States (Beihan, Upper and Lower Aulaqi, Illah, Dathina, Audhali, Quaiti, and Wahidi). The Yemen side is predominantly "unsurveyed", and much of the Protectorate is with "relief data unreliable". There are nevertheless several wadis and other geographical features drawn, with spot heights and altitude shown by colour tinting. Numerous settlements are shown, though none above "4th" or "5th importance". Among the known ones are Beihan and Marib (the ancient Kingdoms of Qataban and Saba surveyed by Wendell Phillips just 10 years earlier) and Himyar. The best quality route is a secondary one joining slightly inland from the Gulf of Aden to Habban, with the rest labelled as "other" or "tracks or paths". The terrain is dotted with numerous aerodromes without facilities, most locally named, one called "Freddie's Field". There is reference to 208 Squadron using the latter in 1963 to supply locally deployed Federal Regular Army (FRA) troops. The FRA was a local Arab force with British officers formed out of the Aden Protectorate Levies in 1961, active in the Aden Emergency (1963-67). (Reference: Radfan Hunters - 208 Squadron 1963).

Aggiungi al carrelloNo Binding. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. Two adjoining colour printed paper maps each 147x105cm. Very good, neatly folded with some foxing, a couple of small patches of scuffing to the K-6A image. Both compiled by Mapping and Charting Establishment, Royal Engineers (MPC (RE)): K-6A in Nov 1971 with air information current to 15 Nov 1971, reprinted by DMAAC 7-72; and K-6B in 1972 with air information to 12 Dec 1972, printed 1/73. K-6A features most of North Yemen up to Sana'a and Shibam with much of its Red Sea coast, and a significant part of South Yemen including Aden along the coast to Mukalla. It also includes small parts of Saudi Arabia ("The boundary between Saudi Arabia and Yemen is not defined"), and FTAI (Djibouti) across the Bab el Mandeb. K-6B continues eastward along the South Yemen coast from Mukalla to Al Ghaydah, with the neighbouring islands of Socotra, "The Brothers", and Abd al Kuri (SE). These Cold War maps date to the aftermath of the North Yemen Civil War, following Saudi and Egyptian withdrawal, President Eryani's consolidation of power and incorporation of royalists into the Republican government excepting the former ruler Imam Badr's family. Border wars continued in 1972 including one in Summer which ended in an unrealised declaration to unite North and South Yemen. Highly detailed with colour tints for altitude, contours, spot heights, notes about terrain, and a glossary. Very large areas are marked with "Relief data incomplete" with the rough guesstimates "Maximum elevations believed not to exceed 5000 [or] 6000 [or] 7000 [or] 8000 feet" (5,500 feet on Socotra), and long lines demarcating areas as "Limits of reliable relief information", "Limits of reliable information", "Limits of distorted surface information". Other details include various grades of road and track, ruins, wells, etc. Aeronautical information includes major and minor aerodromes, alignment of runways, vertical obstructions, power lines, radio aids, and Prohibited, Danger and Caution Areas. On these sheets, the latter are few, mainly applying to the airport at Aden (formerly RAF Khormaksar) which the USSR was using as a Naval Aviation base.

Aggiungi al carrelloNo Binding. Condizione: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Colour printed paper map 147x106cm. Near fine, neatly folded with some spotting and foxing. Produced by the Survey Production Centre, Royal Engineers (SPC.RE) in 1963 from USAF ONC K-6 with minor revision, air information from the Ministry of Defence J.I.B.5 as at August 1963, printed 3-64, published 1964 at the moment the War Office and Air Ministry (also credited here) were merged with the Admiralty to form the Ministry of Defence. The TNC Series replaced the GSGS 4695 sheets. The printing dates to the very early stages of the Aden Emergency when tribes from Radfan attacked British troops (Oct 1963), a grenade was thrown at British officials at RAF Khormaksar, Aden Colony (Dec); and to the North Yemen Civil War (1962-70). Centred on the Gulf of Aden, it covers significant parts of Yemen, the Protectorate of South Arabia, and Somali Republic, bounded by Hodeida and Sana'a (NW), Ras Fartak (NE), Socotra (E), and the Somali-Ethiopian border (SW). The Protectorate of South Arabia (Jan 1963 - Nov 1967) included Aden Protectorate states that did not join the Federation of South Arabia. Colour tinted for altitude with contours, spot heights, notes about terrain (with several areas in Yemen marked "relief data incomplete", and a line demarcating a broad area on the Protectorate side up to the Yemen border labelled "limits of reliable relief information"), international boundaries (that between Yemen and the Protectorate labelled "undefined alignment approx"), settlements, cultivated areas, buildings, various types of aerodrome etc.

Aggiungi al carrelloNo Binding. Condizione: Very Good. Colour printed paper map 70x65cm. Good, neatly folded with refold creases, light staining or tanning, and a short closed tear. Prepared by the US Army Corps of Engineers Army Map Service 1968, boundaries revised by Survey Production Centre, Royal Engineers (SPC.RE) in 1969, and published by D Survey in the same year. Centred on the Red Sea, coverage is about equally divided between UAR Egypt and Sudan, and Saudi Arabia. Features include various sizes of settlement, grades of road and track, rail, major and minor airports, mines, forts, extensive drainage and arid features, with notes about terrain in the image. The Egypt-Sudan side is bounded by the Red Sea coast from the entrance to the Gulf of Suez to Guadiloab, with the Sahara divided by the Nile into Western, Eastern, Libyan and Nubian Deserts. This edition is contemporary with imminent completion of the New Aswan High Dam, shown here including Lake Nasser with the old course of the Nile traced through it. The Saudi side covers the Red Sea coast from the entrance to the Gulf of Aqaba to Lith, thus including both Mecca and Medina and their associated ports, extending inland as far as Hail (NE).
