El autor, Peter Spoden, se alist en la Luftwaffe en octubre de 1940. Tras graduarse como piloto de caza nocturna, fue destinado el 1 de julio de 1943 al Escuadrn de caza nocturna 5 (NJG 5). Bombardiert wurden mehr als tausend Staedte und Ortschaften. Tagsueber durch die amerikanischen und nachts durch die englischen Bomber. Gegen die naechtlichen Flaechenbombardierungen der Englaender war die deutsche Flak weitgehend hilflos. Deshalb begann man ab 1940 mit der Aufstellung von Nachtjagdverbaenden, deren Ziel der Abschuss der feindlichen Bomber war. Der Autor, Peter Spoden, meldete sich im Oktober 1940 freiwillig zur Luftwaffe und wurde dort als Nachtjaeger ausgebildet. Nach abgeschlossenem Training wurde er am 1.Juni 1943 zum Nachtjagdgeschwader 5 (NJG 5) abkommandiert. Nun nahm er Teil am toedlichen Luftkampf zwischen den angreifenden Bomberpulks und den das Land verteidigenden Nachtjaegern. Neben zahlreichen Abschuessen von viermotorigen britischen Bombern wurde er selbst mehrere Male getroffen und verwundet. Das Ende des Krieges erlebte er als Hauptmann und Gruppenkommandeur des NJG 6. Seine Erinnerungen als Nachtjaeger beruhen auf Tatsachen. Er hat aus Tagebuechern, Flugbuechern, Dokumenten und Privatfotos seine Gedanken ueber die Vor- und Kriegszeit fuer seine Enkelkinder aufgeschrieben. Nach dem Krieg wurde er einer der ersten Piloten der neu gegruendeten Deutschen Lufthansa. Als Flugkapitaen flog er auf der DC 3, dem viermotorigen Propellerflugzeug Lockheed Super Constellation, der Boeing 707 und zum Schluss 11 Jahre die Boeing 747. This item is printed on demand.
