Buch. Condizione: Neu. For his latest project, Henrik Spohler traveled to the Netherlands on five extended trips in 2020/2021, totaling 7500 km. On these journeys he looked at this country in the heart of Western Europe as an outsider. Flatlands is a photographic examination of landscape in the very country, where the genre of landscape painting was developed in the 17th century. Today, the Netherlands is the most densely populated country in Europe, crisscrossed by a complex network of roads-canals and railroads. Seemingly endless industrial parks along the traffic routes characterise the landscape and indicate economic prosperity. Every square meter of land is used, every cubic meter of water is integrated into a system of dams, locks and canals. The country, once considered marshland difficult to live on, now symbolises the radical transformation of the environment by man. Spohler and his images demonstrate how a cultural landscape, marked by complex historical, economic and social references, can be read and represented.Henrik Spohler (\*1965) studied at the Folkwangschule in Essen and has been working as a freelance photographer since 1992. His award-winning work is part of public and private collections and has been shown both nationally and internationally in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Flatlands is his sixth book. Buch. Condizione: Neu. Das Projekt »In Between« umfasst 56 Motive. Die Fotografien entstanden in Spanien, Belgien, Polen, den Niederlanden, China und Deutschland.Henrik Spohler's project, »In Between,« investigates the transit sites that are essential to this worldwide stream of commodities, yet are almost never seen by consumers (that is, most of us).The globalization that has occurred over the last two to three decades is characterized by continuous acceleration whose frequency and compulsion are difficult to avoid. Commodities are available to consumers nearly everywhere at any time. Logistical intersections, such as harbors and freight airports, as well as facilities that have been set up along trade corridors, are areas that cater only to economic functions. Seen alone, these places betray no hint of which country or continent they might be located in. The photographs in this project show the flipside of industrial production and commercial trade. Fictitious-looking motifs from nameless territories in Europe and Asia emerge, spreading out and slicing through landscapes. The images in this landscape sized book are printed on a stock that keeps the balance between reproduction quality and surface feel perfectly well. Each work has a double page reserved for itself, which emphasizes the quiet visual qualities of Spohlers photographs and invites the viewer to study their narrative carefully.»In Between« consists of fifty-six photographs taken in Spain, Belgium, Poland, the Netherlands, China, and Germany.…

ill. OPappband. / Hardcover. 1. Aufl.
