Einleitung eines späteren Werkes bei, der wir u.a. folgendes entnehmen: Das Benediktional von St. Aethelwold aus der Bibliothek des Herzogs von Devonshire in Chatsworth, das um das Jahr 975-980 zu datieren ist, gilt allgemein als Hauptwerk der Winchester-Schule . Das Benediktional von St. Aethelwold führt uns in das Jahrhundert der normannischen Eroberung. Auf dem Kontinent sind aus diesem Jahrhundert einige grössere Wandmalerein erhalten (Italien, Frankreich, Deutschland). Ferner weisen in Spanien Serien auf Holz gemalter Altartafeln bis in das elfte Jahrhundert zurück. In England fehlt hierzu ein Gegenstück . erst vom 12.
