There is a thin crack in the gutter visible at the front endpapers or content page, but the front board and pages are secure. The blank page before the title page bears two or three gift inscriptions written neatly in ink. Corners are bumped and rounded. Pages are otherwise clean and unmarked. Overall, this is a fine leather binding and looks quite nice on a shelf.

Early copy of "Gratitude: An Exposition of the Hundred and Third Psalm" by the Rev John Stevenson, Vicar of Patrixbourne-With-Bridge, Canterbury. This book is a devotional work offering a detailed exposition and spiritual reflection on the 103rd Psalm. No date however there is an inscription from 1854 indicating the copy was likely published earlier than 1854. The first printing was in 1852 and it is likely that this is a first edition as there is no date printed, whereas later prints included dates. Furthermore, the publisher, John Henry Jackson entered into a partnership with Robert Seeley in 1854 becoming Seeley, Jackson and Halliday. This partnership published the 1856 version of this book. 356pp , 13.5 x 20.5cm The pages and endpapers display brown spotting/foxing. There are larger, irregular dark stains visible on the inside cover and the title page. The edges of the paper on the left page appear slightly frayed or worn. Binding is intact. The spine is intact, and the covers are attached. There is noticeable wear, rubbing, and general aging to the cloth, consistent with age. The embossed decorative elements on both the spine and the front cover are still clearly visible and defined.
