Talbot Donaldson was a scholar of medieval English literature who is most famous for his 1966 translation ofBeowulf. His workPiers Plowman : The C-Text examines the significance of the C-Text of Piers Plowman by William Langland, which is now recognised as a vitally important version of one of the most significant works of literature from the Medieval period.Medieval Literature is an exciting collection of essays by various Medieval scholars on topics such as 'Ladders and Lines of Connection in Anglo-Saxon Religious Art and Literature', 'Will'sPilgrimage in Piers Plowman B', and 'Chaucer in the Suburbs'. Both in the original publisher's binding with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, both very attractive: a touch of bumping to the head and tail of the spines and extremities and one or two minor marks to the fore edge. Wrappers are generally smart with some light marks and minor chips and closed tears, slightly heavier to 'Piers Plowman'. Wrapper for 'Piers Plowman : The C-Text' has some age toning, heaviest to the spine, and 'Medieval Literature' is slightly sunned, and a trifle creased at the fore edge. Internally, firmly bound with bright, clean pages, barring light age toning. Previous owner's inscription to recto of front first free endpaper of 'Piers Plowman : The C-Text'. Near Fine. Multiple plate photographs, including of Bewcastle Cross, MS Cotton Claudius B, and MS Junius 11. (illustratore). book.
