A scarce privately circulated production associated with the Vesey Club of Sutton Coldfield, a literary and scientific society founded in 1888. Of particular interest for its connections with Sir Benjamin Stone, the pioneering documentary photographer, and Henry Sturmey, later famous for his association with Sturmey-Archer and early cycling journalism. Original full red morocco, elaborately gilt, with marbled endpapers and binder's ticket of C. Cooper & Co. Ltd., Birmingham. Privately printed by Iliffe, Coventry, c.1893. Very good. Light rubbing and minor wear to binding; gilt bright; contents clean; original tipped-in photographs present and well preserved. Size: 18.5 x 23.5 cm.

Stone 'had a deep concern for British heritage, and among his photographs were recorded many British customs and festivals, parliament and parliamentarians, Westminster Abbey, and royal palaces. His photographs of the coronations of Edward VII and George V caused him to become known as the royal photographer' (Chinn, ODNB). With brief titles, descriptions in French. Covers rubbed and worn at the corners, top and bottom of spine; tissue guards browned, lightly but not offensively offset onto text pages. Plates are clear and sharp. Quite a handsome production, housing work by an important photographer.
