Somewhat satirical collection of essays on the linguistic distinctions of the British upper class. The book begins with "an essay in sociological linguistics" by Alan C. Ross and then follows with the response from Nancy Mitford and then responses to that response by such luminaries as Evelyn Waugh, Peter Fleming (writing under the pen-name "Strix"), Christopher Sykes, and John Betjeman. Cover and interior illustrations by Osbert Lancaster. Copy is in good+ condition. Minimal wear to the blue cloth boards. Interior is clean and unmarked. Slight cracking to the front end papers but the binding is solid and tight. Dust jacket is good with some wear, tears, and chips around the edges. Now wrapped in protective Brodart jacket cover.

Publisher's cloth, clean, square and crisp, decorative dust wrapper is bright save for a water stain to lower half of the spine, still presenting smartly in a protective plastic sleeve; this classic title remains eternally popular, penned by an amazing assembly of writers with the Lancaster jacket and illustrations.
