John Milner (17521826) was an English Roman Catholic bishop, controversialist and an eminent antiquary. In 1779 he replaced the Catholic missioner, of Winchester the Rev. It led to a somewhat heated controversy with Dr John Sturges ( 1736 - 1807 ), a prebendary of the cathedral, this resulted the publication of one Milner's best-known works, Letters to a Prebendary . .
