Published late in his life, this work consists of expanded notes from a travel diary kept by Töpffer while hiking with schoolboys in the Alps during a summer vacation. Printed by Lacrampe: Paris, and bound by Antoine Lenègre: Paris. Small quarto: viii, 542, [2] pp. with a decorated extra titles page, 53 full-page plates, and numerous textual vignettes, all wood engravings. In the publisher's red morocco binding designed by Robert Haarhaus, with blind-stamped ruled borders, gilt-stamped vignettes of travel and scenery, and decorative titling on the front panel; gilt-stamped vignettes of figures and travel scenes, and decorative titling on the spine; and blind-stamped ruled borders and gilt-stamped vignette of figure seated at a writing desk on the rear board.
