Prima edizione impreziosita dall' autografo dell' architetto e da uno dei sui caratteristici schizzi architettonici. La grande tavola ripiegata in fine illustra al r/v i lavori dell' architetto dal 1971 al 2002. Questo catalogo, pubblicato in occasione della grande mostra retrospettiva del maestro tenutasi nel 2003 a Tokyo presso la Tokyo Station Gallery e lo Hyogo Prefectural Museum, mette in mostra l' approccio visionario di Ando all' integrazione dell' architettura con l' ambiente circostante, con fotografie dettagliate, disegni architettonici e saggi di progetto. Tadao Ando è uno dei più importanti architetti giapponesi del XX secolo, tra i più noti sulla scena internazionale e vincitore del Premio Pritzker nel 1995. Il testo comprende gli interventi: "The Form of Hope: Concerning Tadao Ando" di Hiroyuki Suzuki; "The Garden of Nothingness" di Yoichi Iijima e "Regeneration of the Landscape" di Tadao Ando che è celebrato in tutto il mondo per il suo inconfondibile uso del cemento, della luce naturale e dell' armoniosa progettazione degli spazi: "A prima vista la mia architettura sembra esposta, come se avessi cercato di creare quel tipo di spazio astratto che risulta dall' eliminazione di tutti gli elementi funzionali e pratici. In realtà, non lotto per uno spazio astratto ma per un archetipo dello spazio". La sua concezione dell' edificio è improntata a una spazialità che evoca il mondo interiore, tipicamente giapponese, mediata però attraverso l' applicazione di tecnologie occidentali, quali quelle del cemento armato a vista e delle grandi superfici in vetro. Governato da una forte componente geometrica, il suo linguaggio progettuale è infatti il riflesso delle esperienze vissute dall' architetto, un' allegoria del suo artefice, riassunta nel motto di Ando: "architecture resembles the architect".
