"Artist and critic George Swinton first discovered [Tascona's] drawings while rummaging through [his] sketchbooks. He was enthused by the drawings of the artist best known for his great abstractions on aluminum, and welcomed him to show this work which he did in a Winnipeg exhibition in 1997. Tascona had started drawing again in the mid 1990s and has concentrated mainly on this form ever since. The first works were small scale, but they became grander in scope. It was this second series of drawings that the Centre culturel first showed in 1999? This special eightieth birthday celebration features drawings from 2000 to 2005. They are imaginative and imbued with humour, reflecting the same themes as his painting and sculpture.
