Grande impresa editoriale incisa su legno al frontespizio, con allegoria della Pace raffigurata come una donna seduta che ha alla sua destra una colonna con la scritta Pax e tiene nella mano sinistra un ramo di ulivo e, nella destra, una fiaccola rovesciata, il tutto entro cornice riccamente figurata. Con 11 tavole doppie fuori testo, numerose figure nel testo, il tutto inciso in xilografia. Legatura novecentesca, realizzata imitando le legature antiche, firmata A. Perticaroli, in piena pelle marrone con filetti e bordure plurime a secco ai piatti con fregi accantonati in oro. Dorso a nervetti con titolo e fregi in oro entro scomparti. Tagli a spruzzo rossi. Ex-libris. Acclusi alcuni schizzi fortificatorii manoscritti, relativi a Roma e ad Ostia, di un proprietario ottocentesco del volume. Bruniture limitate al frontespizio ed a poche altre pagine, ma nel complesso esemplare ben conservato. Ristampa secentesca vicentina, corretta e ampliata rispetto alle precedenti, di uno dei più importanti trattati fortificatori del Cinquecento italiano, apparso per la prima volta nel 1569 a Roma, contro la volontà del Teti. Il Teti (Nola, 1529-Padova, 1589), dapprima al servizio dei Colonna di Zagarolo, al seguito di questi si recò a Vienna, dove rimase per lunghi anni alla corte di Massimiliano II e di Rodolfo II; successivamente sostituì il Sanmicheli nelle fortificazioni di Verona e contribuì alle difese di Bergamo. Capobianco's work on artillery was first published in 1598 and was the first book to recommend the use of cartridges in cannons which would supersede the difficult, tedious and dangerous earlier method of loading with loose powder. Capobianco was captain of artillery for Crema and he demonstrates knowledge of Tartaglia's work on ballistics.
