["Frederik Thaarup, statistiker, historiker., Selv udgav han tidsskriftet Penia 181321, Nyeste Skilderie af Kjøbenhavn 182531, og 1822 overtog han redaktionen af Dagen som han bevarede indtil udgangen af 1835. Som redaktør af et "politisk" blad var han underkastet særlig censur, og det lykkedes ham i de mange år at manøvrere bladet uden om de talrige politiske skær der var særlig farlige i Frederik VI's tid. Kun en enkelt gang synes han i sin redaktø rgerning at have pådraget sig myndighedernes misbilligelse, nemlig ved en skarp kritik af landets finansstyre. Forseelsen indbragte ham en bøde på 100 rdl.
