This was the 14th edition of the "Motor Boat and Yachting Manual", but the first to appear since 1939, when the outbreak of WWII curtailed publication till 1949, with this copy being a second impression of that issue. After such a delay it was virtually a new volume, having undergone an almost complete re-writing with some material updated. A new sections dealt with legal issues and jet power for marine propulsion was diuscfussed. Also included was extensive coverage giving details and two-view drawings of the major types of light motor craft operated by the Royal Navy in WWII.
