Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. Not a book but a 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm (electronically enhanced) stereo vinyl LP record, Atlantic SD 8161, very-good-plus vinyl in a very-good-plus jacket which has been opened but still wears its original shrink-wrap. Jacket states 1968 and these are indeed the proper green-over-blue Atlantic labels for a release between 1966 and 1968. (Original inner sleeve has been repaired, much tattered to open end, lists The Young Rascals' first album -- love the collared shirts -- as well as Coltrane's "My Favorite Things," Wilson Pickett's "In The Midnight Hour," etc.) This LP includes "Stick" McGhee & His Buddies singing "Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee" (since the original four-syllable term of address was judged likely to discourage airplay); Joe Turner offering "Chains of Love" (credited to Nugetre & Van Walls -- not the "Chains" written by Goffin & King for The Cookies and then covered by George & The Beatles in '63); Ruth Brown singing "5-10-15 Hours," The Clovers' "One Mint Julep" (both of those credited to Rudolph Toombs), The Clovers' "Don't You Know I Love You" (also credited to Nugetre -- an obvious anagram for label co-founder Ahmet Ertegun, 1923-2006), etc. This disc originally sold at Music Town in Downey, California -- their small gold gilt label remains. Reduced from $22.

Condizione: Very Good. [New York]: Jubilee Records, ca. 1952. Broadsheet (28x21.5cm) featuring a photograph of five members of the pioneering Maryland doo-wop group with a list of their "Current Record Successes" to verso. A few minor nicks to edges; general soiling; horizontal center fold; previous owner has written the names of the members in pen and drawn a silhouette for George Nelson, who left the band in early 1953 due to a drinking problem; about Very Good. The Orioles achieved great success with their early hits "It's Too Soon To Know" and "(It's Going to be a) Lonely Christmas," and their live shows were a phenomenon. The group's biggest hit would come soon after the release of this broadsheet, with "Crying in the Chapel" hitting #1 in the R&B charts in 1953. The group was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 under the "Early Influences" category.
