An uncommon brochure issued after George W. Bohannon became President of the company in 1958 to head-off…the decline in passenger boardings through the 1950s as he aimed to increase passenger revenue. One of his more innovative ideas was the development of the "Slumbercoach" which was manufactured by The Budd Company. This coach was built originally for the Burlington Railroad as trainsets that replaced the original articulated Denver Zephyr trainsets. Orders were received for the innovative cars from both the Burlington and New York Central, but even the well-thought-out marketing efforts as featured in this booklet failed to stem the trend to air travel. Vertical center crease and covers lightly used else a very good tight copy.

[24 pp.], accordion-style, with each panel color illustrated with a Pullman railroad car on the front panel and photograph illustrated and text illustrations on the verso in black &…white, with all borders in cream and green colors. This inventive color illustrated brochure traces the history of Pullman Cars from the "Old No. 9" which was the first Pullman sleeper car ever built, through the 1876 Centennial sleeper that featured hot water and air brakes, the 1907 first all-steel car, the 1929 air-conditioned car, and in 1942 the Duplex-Roomette car designed for use with their Streamline Pullman trains. Photograph illustrations on the verso emphasize the advantages and sleekness of the first aluminum sleeping car in 1933, a streamlined car train in 1934 complete with bedroom suites and more in 1942. Minor shelf wear and lightly used and a very good bright copy.

This photograph illustrated brochure promotes the advantages of enjoying the accommodations of the famed Streamliner trains… that had originally been attractions during the 1934 Chicago World's Fair, A Century Of Progress. Photograph pictures depict the parlor cars featuring reclining lounge rocking chairs, Art-Deco inspired smoking cars and steamlined coaches that feature single and double rooms, dining and lounge facilities. A few pictures show stylish women in Pullman-Standard sleeper cars as well as double bedroom suites dressed for the evening or in their silk pajamas. Also included is a typed letter signed by a Pullman Company Vice President with the original stamped envelope addressed to George Steinmetz. The letter is mimeographed and thanks Mr. Steinmetz for his inquiry and with the described brochure enclosed. The brochure, letter and mailing envelope are in very good condition.
