Moyes was the printer of the Literary Gazette, and Jerdan is making a suggestion that he feels would improve the dealings between printer and periodical. 1p, 12mo. On the recto of the first leaf of a bifolium, the verso of the second leaf of which is addressed 'private / J Moyes Esqr', and docketed 'Mr. Jerdan. / 1831.'In good condition, lightly aged and folded for postage, with the second leaf bearing witness to the tearing open of the wafer. The letter reads: 'My dear Moyes / That nice lad Lewellin is fifteen years old on Lady-day, I wish you wd. apprentice him at that date. I think I might arrange so that he might sleep here, and bring & take the bag regularly so as to save much trouble & time / Yrs truly / Jerdan'. Aggiungi al carrelloHarper's note is on the recto of the first leaf of a 4to bifolium, addressed by him to 'George Chalmers Esqr' on the reverse of the second leaf, which is docketted by Chalmers 'Notes of Documents from - 1760/67'. Chalmer's memorandum is written lengthwise and upwards on the reverse of the first leaf. In good condition, on aged paper. Harper's note reads: 'Mr. Harper presents his Respects to Mr. Chalmers with many Thanks for the kind Notice with which he is pleased to honour him. | The Reading Room will be open to Mr. Chalmers whenever he finds it agreeable to avail himself of it'. Chalmer's memorandum consists of eight dated entries, totalling 18 lines, from March 1760 to April 1767, with citations, under the heading: 'Documents - for the and reign of Geo. 3. Plantn. Office'. The first entry ris for a 'Representation with regard to the illicit trade carried on by Cartels', and the last reads 'Letter to Lord Shelburne with regard to the Salaries of Govt. Judges &c'.…

The Alien Office was created as a department of the Home Office to implement the Aliens Act 1793, which attempted to control the influx of foreign visitors and refugees caused by the turmoil in France. It ceased to exist following the Registration of Aliens Act 1836. created to control the influx of French refugees and suspected revolutionaries. The present document is 1p, 4to. In good condition, lightly aged. Folded twice with wafer on reverse. Written out by a clerk, and signed by Birnie and Mette. Reads: 'Middlesex towit / Eckhartt [sic] Martin Mette of No. 14 Vale Place Hammersmith in the County of Middlesex Tailor maketh oath and saith that he has either lost or mislaid the paper that exempts him from attending at the Alien Office every six Months / Eckhardt Martin Mette / Sworn before before me this 28th. May 1829 at Bow Street / R: Birnie'.…
