Harvard Aeronautical Society, Atlantic, Massachusetts: Harvard Aviation Field, 1910. 8vo, 48 pp. plus original 6-page supplemental insert with map of Harvard Aviation Field. Original pictorial wrappers printed in red, grey and black. Saddle stitched. Wrappers worn and marked, some foxing and staining, particularly to preliminaries and outer leaves, old vertical fold to insert, but complete and sound overall. A good copy of a fragile survival retaining the scarce supplemental programme and field map. Official programme for the Harvard-Boston Aero Meet of 1910, one of the earliest major aviation meetings held in the United States during the pioneering era of powered flight. The programme includes a history of aeronautics and the Wright Brothers, illustrations and biographies of aviators, descriptions of aircraft and flying techniques, competition rules, prize structures, and organisational details for the meeting. Particularly notable is the survival of the original supplemental insert containing an updated programme and a plan of Harvard Aviation Field at Atlantic, Massachusetts. The event offered substantial prizes for speed, altitude, duration, distance, and landing accuracy competitions, reflecting the rapid technical development and public fascination surrounding aviation only a few years after the Wright Brothers' first flights.…

Ownership inscription on the front free endpaper, noting that this copy was a graduation gift from Miss Mabel Beck. Mabel Beck (1890-1959) was the longtime personal secretary to Orville Wright, serving in his office from shortly after Wilbur's death in 1912 until Orville's own death in 1948 and handling his correspondence, business affairs, and administrative duties for over three decades. She was closely involved in managing Orville's professional paperwork and was regarded as a trusted aide and gatekeeper in his later life. Beck also played a role after Orville's death in dealings such as correspondence about the Wright brothers' legacy, and her personal collection of Wright photographs and papers is noted in archival holdings.
