Since the middle of 2007 the media's dominating topic has been the global financial crisis, whose roots lay in the U.S. capital market - in fact one of the best-regulated financial markets in the world. In times when capital knows no borders and all the single foreign capital markets are interconnected, it took less time until the impact of the American 'credit crunch' reached the rest of the world and unbalanced even the most powerful banks. In spite of market's cross-border linkage a huge variety of different (or even contrary) accounting standards exists. Against this background the Internationals Accounting Standards Board (IASB) in cooperation with its U.S. counterpart the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) tries to cope with this crisis by amending existing and setting new standards. That should guarantee showing the true economies of entities for their report's users. This paper will reflect the current developments of the European standard setters regarding 'IAS 17 - Leases'. First of all the problem areas of the old standard will be shown, then the amendments will be highlighted. The focus lays on the amendments in lessee accounting and they will be evaluated by means of expert opinions whether these actions are effective and decision-useful to the public.

Though, since summer 2007 these financially strong giants have been unhinged by their self-developed 'financial crisis' that originated from the US sub-prime market. Due to the instance that the today's capital markets are interlinked worldwide, it was just a matter of months that the effects of this 'banking crisis' unbalanced the entire global economy. Actually large banks became illiquid and the governments had to shore them up, so that the whole financial network did not go to pieces.Among others, the reason for this disaster was a lack of trust between market participants, caused by enormous amounts of 'toxic debts', hidden in the balance sheets of almost every bank that cannot be reliably valued or seem to be worthless. For that reason the professional world and the accounting body IASB came under fire. Especially banks and politicians accused them of having provided inadequate and in-transparent accounting standards, which led to this disaster and amplified the downturn in the world economy. Hence, not only the accounting standard for financial instruments IAS 39 is in the centre of this discussion, especially the IASB's eminently respectable 'fair value' approach has been criticised of being useless in times when markets are absent.This paper will try finding answers if better accounting standards for financial instruments would have prevented us from this downturn in economy by analysing the origin of the financial crisis and showing the arisen problems. After highlighting its development, the central IFRS standards IAS 39 and the fair value approach will be analysed and evaluated with focus on banks. Finally the IASB's attempts to manage the arisen problems within the credit crisis will be shown and annotated.

Daher sind insbesondere seit mehr als zehn Jahren vermehrt Forderungen von Seiten der Politik, wie auch von Seiten der Öffent-lichkeit nach einer Erhöhung des Frauenanteils insbesondere in der Unternehmensleitung/-überwachung wahrzunehmen.In der aktuellen wissenschaftlichen bzw. auch öffentlichen Diskussion werden zunehmend zwei verschiedene Argumentationsebenen vermischt. Zum einen wird eine stärkere Präsenz von Frauen in Vorständen und Aufsichtsräten (V/AR) aus Gleichstellungsgründen und der Forderung nach mehr Einbezug in die wirtschaftlichen Entscheidungsprozesse erhoben. In dieser gesellschaftspolitischen Sichtweise stellt ein höherer Frauenanteil einen Wert an sich dar. Zum anderen werden Argumente angeführt, dass Unternehmen mit stärkerer Repräsen-tanz von Frauen in Aufsichts-/Führungsgremien eine bessere Performance zeigen würden. In dieser betriebswirtschaftlichen Sichtweise wird hingegen eine Sicherung bzw. Qualitätssteige-rung der Unternehmensführung/-überwachung gesehen (BCCG 2010, 2786). Diese Diskussi-onen brachten noch kein Patentrezept hervor, weshalb auch alle Länder unterschiedlich mit diesem wirtschafts-, sozial- aber auch familienpolitischen Sachverhalt umgehen. In Deutsch-land haben sich infolge des öffentlichen und politischen Drucks sowie hinsichtlich Gleichbe-rechtigungsbestrebungen v. a. drei Lösungsmöglichkeiten herauskristallisiert. Zu diesen zäh-len gezielte Förderprogramme für Frauen, die Verabschiedung von Frauenquoten wie auch die Aufnahme von Diversity-Grundsätzen in die corporate governance codizes. Nun stellt sich die Frage, inwieweit diese im Rahmen guter corporate governance vorteilhaft sind. Diese reale und tagesaktuelle Problematik wird auch von den Wissenschaftlern/-innen ver-ständlicherweise emotional behandelt. Seit 2008 hat der Begriff der Risikokultur in der Bankenregulierung besondere Beachtung gefunden. Eine solide Risikokultur gilt als Fundament eines effektiven Risikomanagements und stärkt sowohl das Risikobewusstsein als auch eine angemessene Fehlerkultur. Sie fungiert als Bindeglied zwischen finanziellen und nicht-finanziellen Risiken und erleichtert die Handhabung schwer quantifizierbarer Risiken. Daher sind insbesondere seit mehr als zehn Jahren vermehrt Forderungen von Seiten der Politik, wie auch von Seiten der Öffent-lichkeit nach einer Erhöhung des Frauenanteils insbesondere in der Unternehmensleitung/-überwachung wahrzunehmen.In der aktuellen wissenschaftlichen bzw. auch öffentlichen Diskussion werden zunehmend zwei verschiedene Argumentationsebenen vermischt. Zum einen wird eine stärkere Präsenz von Frauen in Vorständen und Aufsichtsräten (V/AR) aus Gleichstellungsgründen und der Forderung nach mehr Einbezug in die wirtschaftlichen Entscheidungsprozesse erhoben. In dieser gesellschaftspolitischen Sichtweise stellt ein höherer Frauenanteil einen Wert an sich dar. Zum anderen werden Argumente angeführt, dass Unternehmen mit stärkerer Repräsen-tanz von Frauen in Aufsichts-/Führungsgremien eine bessere Performance zeigen würden. In dieser betriebswirtschaftlichen Sichtweise wird hingegen eine Sicherung bzw. Qualitätssteige-rung der Unternehmensführung/-überwachung gesehen (BCCG 2010, 2786). Diese Diskussi-onen brachten noch kein Patentrezept hervor, weshalb auch alle Länder unterschiedlich mit diesem wirtschafts-, sozial- aber auch familienpolitischen Sachverhalt umgehen. In Deutsch-land haben sich infolge des öffentlichen und politischen Drucks sowie hinsichtlich Gleichbe-rechtigungsbestrebungen v. a. drei Lösungsmöglichkeiten herauskristallisiert. Zu diesen zäh-len gezielte Förderprogramme für Frauen, die Verabschiedung von Frauenquoten wie auch die Aufnahme von Diversity-Grundsätzen in die corporate governance codizes. Nun stellt sich die Frage, inwieweit diese im Rahmen guter corporate governance vorteilhaft sind.Diese reale und tagesaktuelle Problematik wird auch von den Wissenschaftlern/-innen ver-ständlicherweise emotional behandelt.
