First edition. 114pp., frontispiece and four other black and white illustrations. James William Herries was a Scottish journalist, and was chief reporter for The Scotsman newspaper in the 1930s and '40s. In this book he describes a journey he made along the rivers Tweed and Tay in a skin-covered coracle. The book is bound in the original grey cloth covered boards with black titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling and a little staining on the boards. The top of the spine is lightly bumped and there is slightly heavier bumping to the bottom of the spine. The contents are tight and clean with browning to the free endpapers and a name and date (1925) has been written on the front free endpaper.

The British shipping company Cunard White Star Line was founded in 1934 by Cunard (founded 1840) and White Star Line (1845-1934) providing passenger and shipping transportation services on the transatlantic route until 1949 when Cunard bought out White Star. Launched in 1934 the RMS Queen Mary took her maiden voyage in 1936 as Cunard's flagship liner; she was converted during World War Two into an allied troop ship and resumed transatlantic passenger services after the war before retiring in 1967; the Queen Mary is now permanently moored as a museum and hotel ship in California. Good condition, restored areas of paper loss, restored tears, backed on linen. Size: 101.5x64cm.
