Hardcover. Condizione: Good. Vellum binding is darkened and damaged. A very large piece of the vellum is missing from the upper portion of the front cover, exposing the wood board. The rear cover is missing a smaller, but still large, piece from the lower part, and also the upper outer corner. There is much splitting to the vellum of the spine. The front blank and the title page are detached but present. The title page is missing the spine margin. Roughly 25 leaves have a bookworm track to the lower blank margin, diminished in size on either side. There are one or two tiny bookworm holes to the text which sometimes touch letters. Numerous leaves in front have slight dampstaining to the upper spine corners and adjacent margins, diminishes toward the rear. Pages are slightly browned. Front wooden board is warped, rear wooden board is vertically split in two. ; Latin text. Two volumes in one. Eighteen plates and engraved title page. Contemporary vellum binding (damaged). Single sheet (7 4/8 x 14 4/8 inches). Fine etched world map on an oval projection decorated with spandrel windhead directions in each corner (cropped to the plate-mark). First issue, of this lovely clear outline map after Ortelius' world map of 1587. Published in Torniello's "Annales Sacri et Profani.". Born Gregorio Torniello in Navarra, he originally planned to be a doctor, but instead took orders in 1569, and changed his name to Agostino. He wrote his "Annales.", a general history of the world from Adam to the time of Christ, which was published first in 1609, and then again in 1610 with the general map embellished with extra-place names and putti in the spandrels.
