Whitting who served with the 'Mountain Gunners of the Royal Artillery on the North West Frontier of India and in Tibet. The author / editor J. P. Warren has signed the f.e.p. thus " To a distinguished Mountain gunner family, the Whitting with best wishes Pat Warren (J. P. Warren)" Whilst not a regimental history this is an anthology of stories told by those who served in or knew well Mountain Artillery, one of the most unusual and colourful military units ever formed in the long history of the British Empire that was celebrated in Kipling's poem 'Screw Guns' Ref F1.
