According to the Historical Dictionary of War Journalism Trakhman "worked as a documentary film cameraman from 1934 to 1939 before joining the Soviet Information Bureau as a photographer-reporter from 1939 to 1941. He became a war reporter-photographer with the Red Army and TASS in 1941. His photographs capture the lives of guerilla fighters and civilians behind the enemy lines.".
