Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fair. 1st Edition. Stated First American Edition. You can see the covers in the photos. They are exceptionally clean. I don't see any soiling at all. The gilt lettering on the spine is nicely bright. There is only a tiny crinkle at the top edge of the spine. The cover edges are in excellent shape, no rubbing. The same can be said for the cover corners. The page edges are very clean. The middle one is deckled or rough-cut, but the edges are actually quite smooth. The interior of the book is in very nice condition. Scrolling through the pages, I haven't found any instances of soiling. That goes for the inside covers and blank end papers as well. There is a light crinkle off the top edge of the first 10-15 pages, not a placeholder crease, something must have pressed down there. There are no placeholder creases, no turned-down corner creases. There are no markings in the book. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. I have rated the dust jacket only Fair due to the oval-shaped loss on the front cover. There is also a small loss off the top edge of the spine. The covers are very clean. I don't see any soiling. There is a strip of tan toning off the top edge of the rear cover. The color on the spine has been somewhat sun altered. There are what look like penned initials off the top edge of the rear cover. The flaps are in very nice condition, very clean, no tears or loss, a very thin strip of toning off the top edges. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. I have always had it in a fitted protective cover. From the dust jacket: 'This is no ordinary adventure story. Jean Giono has written it with great subtlety, verve, and sparkle. His style, reminiscent of Stendhal's, is crackly and studded with epigrams. The Horsemen On The Roof is impressive and unique.'.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -In the white heat the sky is opaque, the air leaden and the light intense. A single cavalryman wonders at the oppressive atmosphere of the unfamiliar countryside he is entering. Exile from his Italian homeland as well as an innate, stubborn pride compel him onward, into the heart of Provence and into the acute cholera epidemic which ravaged the country in the 1830s.Giono here directs a hallucinatory, lyrical narrative in which the mortal odours, the violent contractions of those who meet with the disease and the fear of a people confronted with insuperable natural forces are palpable. Death pervades the novel, but Angelo does not cease journeying, dodging blockades and quarantine imposed by troops - even seeking temporary refuge on the roofs of one town - determined to find his childhood friend, Giuseppe. Others join him on the road, and leave him. Only the young woman, Pauline de Théus, who calmly receives the intruder who one night descends from the roofs, proves a worthy travelling companion.
