No owner's name or bookplate. No underlining. No highlighting. No margin notes. Inner hinges are perfect. Bound in the original brown-stamped, biege buckram cloth. Mellown D8 (in Bibliography of the Writings of Edwin Muir). The coming-of-age novel CLASS OF 1902 by Ernst Glaeser (1902-1963) was originally published in Germany as JAHRGANG 1902. In 1938, this and most of Glaeser's other works were blacklisted by the Nazis. Just like the author, the book's narrator was born in 1902, too young to fight in World War I. The book attracted Nazi censure because it paints an unflattering picture of daily life in Germany during the war years. The Nazis also objected to the book's favorable references to liberal causes; for making fun of anti-Semites; and for its tolerant view of sexual relationships between immigrant workers and German women. First American Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good condition./No Dust Jacket. 8vo. 397pp. .
