All housed in its original grey card box, titles to paper label on upper cover. Title continues: After the French version entitled "Tangu et Felime", by Monsieur e la Harpe, Member of the French Academy, published in Paris in 1780, and now done into English by Sir Frank Swettenham. With Marilliers five illustrations reproduced from the French edition. teg remainder uncut, some leaves uncut. Swettenham, colonial administrator, was a better than average watercolour painter and writer, initially of specialized papers on Malay subjects and Malay dictionaries. His early books, Malay Sketches (1895) and The Real Malay (1899), vividly depict nineteenth-century Malaya and evince a deep knowledge of Malay rural life.
