Following a short introduction to Yali culture and conceptions, he describes the six large rituals: usa (sacred), the Muruwal initiation, the Salem healing ritual, the ritual to treat sweet potato gardens, the pig-raising ritual, and the hairdo ritual and the house post treatment. Also described are some peripheral rituals: the initiation of the boys, mortuary rites, and sorcery and love magic. One chapter, written specifically for POINT Series, discusses briefly the effect of the proclamation of the Gospel against the background of Yali traditional religion and world-view.
