Illustrated w six indexed figures in text, and forty-eight plates tipped in, collated to index. These plates are colour reproductions of the stone-plate lithographs by J. G. Keulemans from the second edition, 1888. Decorative endpapers. Blank bookplate neatly covers pocket remnant on front pastedown. Cloth w gilt stamped figure on cover, black quarter-wrap spine w gilt lettering. Adhesive ghosts visible from prev use of cello tape to hold DJ in place Bottom edges are worn. Bottom back corner is damaged. Joints and hinges are sound, no cracking. Internally, there are occasional faint splatter stains, none affecting the plates, but suggesting the book was dropped, perhaps in snow. Colour illustrated DJ has seen previous repair including chipping to bottom back corner. Lib cat label on tail. DJ preserved in laminated cover. Folio: 374 x 265mm. A fairly worn copy, but with all the colour plates intact. This reprint edition of Buller's original work was revised and brought up to date by E. G. Turbott.
