In exploring Islam's history through its monuments, these must be considered in their broadest sense~not only the magnificent buildings of all kinds shown in the photographs but also the other achievements of Islamic civilization, comprising miniatures, wall paintings, pottery and other ceramics, textiles, and even poetry and various forms of literature and intellectual expression.
