Neuware - 'Une Vie Humaine' is the profound and tragic autobiography of Uriel Da Costa, a pivotal figure in the history of rationalist thought and religious skepticism. Aggiungi al carrelloBuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - 'Une Vie Humaine' is the profound and tragic autobiography of Uriel Da Costa, a pivotal figure in the history of rationalist thought and religious skepticism. Born into a family of Marranos in Portugal, Da Costa eventually sought to return to his ancestral Jewish faith in Amsterdam, only to find himself in deep conflict with the religious authorities of his time. This work serves as a poignant testament to the struggle for intellectual freedom against dogmatic tradition. In this candid memoir, Da Costa explores the painful tensions between institutional religion and individual reason. He details his spiritual journey, his critiques of religious law, and the subsequent social isolation and excommunications he endured. His reflections provide a rare glimpse into the intellectual ferment of the 17th-century Jewish community and the early roots of the Enlightenment. The narrative is not merely a personal history but a philosophical defense of the search for truth, documenting the heavy price paid for dissent in an age of conformity.Essential for readers interested in the history of philosophy, Sephardic heritage, and the evolution of religious thought, 'Une Vie Humaine' remains a powerful exploration of the human condition and the enduring quest for intellectual integrity. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Aggiungi al carrelloBuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Da Costa's long-lost book rejects the divine origin of the rabbinic tradition. His insight was that what he calls Pharisaism is irreconcilable with the religion of the Pentateuch and therefore cannot derive from the same source. He claims, for example, that the Law of Moses does not allow for a belief in an afterlife for individual human beings. Concomitantly he denied the Mosaic origin of the notion of eternal punishment. The rabbinic reading of the Mosaic Law appeared to him almost as great a falsification as the Christian one. Yet there could be no reversion to Christianity and despite his deep rift with the synagogue he still believed in ultimate redemption for the Jewish people. As he so dramatically declares in his closing sonnet, Israel's rehabilitation depends on its shedding man-made doctrines, and holding fast to the Law in its purity.
