The theme of the book is conservation, i.e. development causing minimum intervention with the physical environment to ensure that wheat is valuable to the community is not only protected but also reused. The study was commissioned by the Government of Kenya who intends to give the town a permanent lease of life without overwhelming its fragile social fabric.
