Maraini se perfectionna en France (auprès de Guyon et d'Albarran) et surtout en Allemagne (auprès de Nitze et de Casper), avant de devenir chef du service d'urologie et professeur à l'université de Buenos Aires. Cette thèse, composée de dix chapitres, constitue une monographie complète sur la cystoscopie.
