Maquette originale de Jean-Adrien Mercier (1899-1995) pour "La Naïade endormie", un conte sous-marin de Pierre Valmigère, dont il assura l'illustration. Cette oeuvre fut éditée dans une version légèrement modifiée pour le numéro de Noël de l'Illustration de 1941. Jean-Adrien Mercier est un illustrateur et aquarelliste de premier ordre mais aussi un affichiste et un décorateur (Paquebot France). Une exposition rétrospective lui fut consacrée en 1995 à la Bibliothèque Forney, ainsi que des expositions tournantes, notamment aux Etats-unis. Cette aquarelle représente Neptune évoluant dans les fonds marins à la recherche de sa séduisante Naïade. Oeuvre originale.
