Condizione: New. Condizione: New. Cloth over boards. Condizione: As described. First edition. Hardcover cloth (red) over boards. Oblong 4to. xx + 100 (recto only) pp. Illustrated with 100 lithographs of calligraphy letters and type fonts with examples of their use in advertisements predominately printed in black and red (some in full colour), and a full colour lithograph title page. Spanish text. Book has been sympathetically repaired with a new spine. Cloth from the original spine has been reused, but the title has been clipped. The new spine gives the book the look of being quarter bound, with the new cloth covering some of the blind tooling on the front and back boards. Gilt stamped coat of arms of Mexico with alternate title (Caligrafia Sistema Vergara) on the front cover. Blind tooled corner ornaments and triple border on the front and back covers. This was a working copy; there is evidence of use throughout (minor stains and rubbings) the text block. Edges yellowed with some foxing. The lithographs however are still very clean and bright. Boards are frayed along the edges, faded, and stained. Book is whole, and the new binding is strong. A rare copy for anyone interested in the development of typography and advertising in North America.…
