The author employs established results from queueing theory and applies them to a specific queueing network model t…hat represents manufacturing systems where some tasks are done on a first-come, first-served basis (open customers) and other tasks circulate between stations (closed customers). Specifically, the author proves that as the number of closed customers grows large relative to the rate at which open customers arrive and receive service, the workload process at station one, which represents the manufacturing center, can be approximated by a one-dimensional reflected Brownian motion (RBM) on a finite interval. Furthermore, the author shows that the workload due to open and closed customers at station one are deterministically related and live in fixed proportions. These results have implications for the design and analysis of manufacturing systems, as they provide a way to approximate the behavior of complex systems using simpler models that are easier to analyze. The author brings their expertise in queueing theory and stochastic processes to bear on the subject. The result is a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners interested in the mathematical analysis of manufacturing systems. A pioneering and detailed study on the Dong Son drums excavated by government archaeologists in northern Vietnam. Emphasis is on analysis of wide variety of iconogra…phic details that occur on the drum walls and tympanum, and the resulting light that these images shed on the lives of the ancient Lac Viet peoples - the creators of the drums. The Vietnamese text is printed on 164 pp. of now browned wartime paper and remains readable, but the illustrations are very clearly reproduced on high grade art matte paper and come through with excellent clarity. Line drawings of iconographic details, with their inherent high contrasts, make these details much more readily viewed and studied than if one were to examine photographs or the drums themselves. Text pages browned, soft wrappers are sound, but chipped and bearing red seal and remains of two labels. Condition typical or better than most publications from Vietnam dating to this period. Book can be hardbound in new cloth on request, at modest additional cost - please enquire. Scarce and valuable primary resource on Dong Son bronze art.
