Original single weight press photograph of Vittorio de Sica smoking a cigarette, smiling, and entering (or leaving) an automobile, during the filming of the 1958 Italian-French film. French titles and de Sica's name in manuscript ink, and a Pan American Airways rubberstamp, on the verso. Parisian paparazzi were likely on-hand as the cast and crew traveled during filming, de Sica kind enough to charm the camera in a candid moment. Based on an original idea by Margadonna and Dino Risi, director of the first "Scent of a Woman" (1974). A rich widow (Lollobrigida) moves to her hometown in Italy to find a new husband, eventually settling for the town's blacksmith. De Sica has a small bit as an peculiar priest. Director Lastricati was often an assistant director, those credits include "War and Peace" (1956), "Boom!" (1968) and several other Joseph Losey films, "Barbarella" (1968), "Boy on a Dolphin" (1957), and "The Angel Wore Red" (1960). 7 x 9.25 inches. Very Good, with faint foxing, light curling, and brief creases to the right edge.

Minor soiling covers but no distinct stains or marks, no spine mark or any external library mark, small library stamp "Royal Scottsh Geographical Society" stamp on title page and on blank side of every plate and on corner of maps otherwise no other library marks (no EP pockets or bookplates since new EPS), no writing or underlining on any pages, solid binding (nothing loose or cracked), most pages have no foxing but there is some opposite some plates in the first half of the book and a little opposite the folding panoramas. The folding maps are in good shape but the big one has a small marginal tear (2cm) nearly repaired with japanese tissue and the small map has a clean split in the bottom margin of the fold up to the image but not into the image, Overall nice condition for a library copy. Complete with all plates, panoramas and maps. The book measures 27cm tall x 19cm, and has 241 pages, 34 b/w plates, 2 folding color maps, 4 folding half-tone panoramas, 117 halftone text illustrations, 6 appendices, bibliography. This is the classic account of the first ascent of Mt. St. Elias in Alaska. PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.

Rebound in green cloth to resemble the original binding with original front cover title patch cleanly mounted in original position on front cover and original spine patches similarly mounted. Overall nice condition. Tight binding with no loose pages (the text block has been sewn into page gatherings = the stitching shows at the start/end of each gathering --> see photo). Gift inscription on front pastedown. No other former owner writing or marks in book. Based on the inscription, this book was given to Smoke Blanchard prior to his 1964 expedition to Mt St Elias, possibly by Vin Hoeman, beloved climber & mountaineering historian who perished in an avalanche on the 1969 Dhaulagiri expedition along with 6 others, though the "Love Always" seems a bit melodramatic. Smoke Blanchard's St Elias expedition was a 4-man venture starting at sea level. They did not reach the summit. There is foxing on several pages, mainly those opposite photo plates or at the page gathering ends. NOT ex-library. No dampstaining. Pages are clean and flat (not wavy as often happens with this book). Complete with all plates, panoramas and maps.
