Weighted finite automata are classical nondeterministic finite automata in which the transitions carry weights. These weights may model, e. g. , the cost involved when executing a transition, the am…ount of resources or time needed for this,or the probability or reliability of its successful execution. The behavior of weighted finite automata can then be considered as the function (suitably defined) associating with each word the weight of its execution. Clearly, weights can also be added to classical automata with infinite state sets like pushdown automata; this extension constitutes the general concept of weighted automata. To illustrate the diversity of weighted automata, let us consider the following scenarios. Assume that a quantitative system is modeled by a classical automaton in which the transitions carry as weights the amount of resources needed for their execution. Then the amount of resources needed for a path in this weighted automaton is obtained simply as the sum of the weights of its transitions. Given a word, we might be interested in the minimal amount of resources needed for its execution, i. e. , for the successful paths realizing the given word. In this example, we could also replace the "resources" by "profit" and then be interested in the maximal profit realized, correspondingly, by a given word.

Auflage / ISBN 3858300101 - Band 2: ISBN 3858300160. - Die Jugendunruhen in der Schweiz in… den 1980er-Jahren wurden durch Krawalle mehrerer hundert Jugendlicher vor dem Opernhaus Zürich (die sogenannten "Opernhauskrawalle") am 30./31. Mai 1980 ausgelöst. Im Mai 1980 genehmigte der Zürcher Stadtrat 60 Millionen Franken für die Renovation des Opernhauses. Gleichzeitig lehnte er die Forderungen nach einem autonomen Jugendzentrum (AJZ) ab. Daraufhin folgte eine in der Schweiz einzigartige Gewaltspirale zwischen der Bevölkerung und der Polizei, so etwa nach der ersten Schliessung des AJZ am Carparkplatz Sihlquai in der Nähe des Zürcher Hauptbahnhofs. Sie forderte insgesamt mehrere hundert Verletzte auf beiden Seiten und Sachschäden in Millionenhöhe. An den Opernhauskrawallen beteiligten sich Besucher des Bob-Marley-Konzerts am 30. Mai 1980 im Hallenstadion Am 30. Mai kam es bei einer Demonstration vor dem Opernhaus, die von einer Menschenmenge verstärkt wurde, welche von einem Bob-Marley-Konzert kam, zu den Auseinandersetzungen, die später als "Opernhaus-Krawalle" bezeichnet wurden. Die Zürcher Jugendunruhen kamen für Behörden und Öffentlichkeit überraschend, hatten sich aber früher angekündigt, beispielsweise in der 1979 erfolgten Stürmung eines Konzertes von Jimmy Cliff. Bereits in den späten 1960er Jahren gab es Auseinandersetzungen, die unter anderem mit dem Wunsch nach einem AJZ im Zusammenhang standen (?Globuskrawall). Erst mit der Zeit war die städtische Politik zum Dialog bereit und wurde der geforderte Raum für alternative kulturelle Aktivitäten (z. B. Rote Fabrik) bereitgestellt Die Achtziger-Bewegung kämpfte mit unkonventionellen Mitteln (so traten zwei Zürcher Aktivisten in einer TV-Diskussion zu den Jugendunruhen als "Herr und Frau Müller" auf und forderten ein härteres Vorgehen gegen die Jugendlichen), Sprachwitz (z. B. "Macht aus dem Staat Gurkensalat" oder "Freier Blick aufs Mittelmeer - Sprengt die Alpen") und mit neuen ästhetischen Gestaltungsmitteln (siehe z. B. Weighted finite automata are classical nondeterministic finite automata in which the transitions carry weights. These weights may model, e. g.… , the cost involved when executing a transition, the amount of resources or time needed for this,or the probability or reliability of its successful execution. The behavior of weighted finite automata can then be considered as the function (suitably defined) associating with each word the weight of its execution. Clearly, weights can also be added to classical automata with infinite state sets like pushdown automata; this extension constitutes the general concept of weighted automata. To illustrate the diversity of weighted automata, let us consider the following scenarios. Assume that a quantitative system is modeled by a classical automaton in which the transitions carry as weights the amount of resources needed for their execution. Then the amount of resources needed for a path in this weighted automaton is obtained simply as the sum of the weights of its transitions. Given a word, we might be interested in the minimal amount of resources needed for its execution, i. e. , for the successful paths realizing the given word.
