Rarissima collezione mancante dei soli numeri finali 10 e 11 (usciti dopo un'interruzione di un anno nel 1980 e 1981) in complessive ottime condizioni. «Noi Volsci, autonomi di Roma e dintorni, barbari dai mille volti e delitti, dichiariamo aperta la guerra di stampa. Contro di voi, teorici strateghi operatori e manovali del comando sul lavoro sociale». Si apriva così l'editoriale-manifesto al primo numero del febbraio 1978 di «I Volsci», mensile ma con periodicità in verità irregolare attivo per 11 numeri totali fino all'ottobre del 1981, con Espressione del collettivo di "via dei Volsci" dalla strada del quartiere romano di San Lorenzo che ospitava la sede più importante dell'autonomia operaia capitolina la rivista esordì come supplemento della precedente «Rivolta di classe» (chiusa dopo la vasta e dura operazione di polizia del 7 novembre 1977), proseguendo al contempo la sua battaglia rivoluzionaria anche contro la repressione promossa dallo stesso PCI (del resto già da tempo nemico dell'eterogena area antagonista). Non meno critico però l'atteggiamento dei "Volsci" che scelsero, come simbolo posto accanto al titolo in rosso, il barbaro Obelix nei confronti di altri gruppi della sinistra extraparlamentare. Scrivevano a questo proposito nell'articolo «Per organizzarci» posto in prima pagina nel numero che vide la significativa variazione del sottotitolo da «Mensile dell'Autonomia Operaia romana» a «Mensile dell'Autonomia operaia»: «Occorre, per essere più espliciti, chiarire che cosa fare e come farlo, per uscire tanto dalle secche del qualunquismo di sinistra generato principalmente da Lotta Continua, quanto per superare la vocazione minoritaria dimostrata da alcune componenti dell'Autonomia Operaia come Rosso e Senza Tregua. [] La proposta che facciamo, quindi, il Movimento dell'Autonomia Operaia, è la risultante di questo sforzo collettivo e intendiamo metterla in discussione nel movimento []. Per assolvere a questo compito «I Volsci» diventeranno meno "romani" e si arricchiranno di tutti i contributi delle popolazioni barbare del territorio nazionale». Tirata in 5000 copie, la rivista proseguì le pubblicazioni con sostanziale continuità fino al numero 9 del luglio 1979 per poi tornare nel marzo 1980 e nel già ricordato ottobre 1981 con i due fascicoli finali. 455 x 320 mm, giornale autocopertinato, numero di pagine variabile.
