Lacking blank end pages. [16], LII, 358, [4] pages. Kantemir has been called the "father of Russian poetry." He was a Russian statesman and man… of letters. Kantemir's poetry was first publish in French in 1749. This edition, the first German one, was published three years later. The first Russian edition was printed in 1762, twenty years after Kantemir's death, and with significant alterations by his editor. Provenance: Early engraved German bookplate, "Revisionsrath of Chlingensperg" Joseph Maria von Chlingensperg (1749-1811) (of Bavaria). Coat of arms and armorial tent with two crowns, on which stand a crowned dove and an ascending and crowned lion.
