Hardcover. vii, 121 p.; 22 cm. The author first became connected in 1875 and was admitted to membership in 1887. `The organ Blower, was a fussy white bearded old gentleman. He had been appointed in 1857, "at the remuneration of #1 per quarter, to include all necessary week night special services and choir practice night." (I think it was because there were many opportunities to "blow for pupils at 6d. per hour" that the job had its attractions). Anyhow, by this time [1875?] he was getting old, and really unable to properly perform his duties. He had a dwarf son--who was a bad lad--and this son had a dwarf friend, who was another bad lad! Our delight was is watching them "blowing." Somehow, the little lead weight on a string rising and falling, indicating how much "wind" was available, had a tremendous fascination for us boys. When the old man appeared, it was interesting to watch him sleep! Perched on a little stool, we always expected him to fall off, as he swayed during his sleep; but he never did! He slept regularly: during the Long Prayer (20 minutes) and during the sermon (45 to 60 minutes).' (p. 75) Good plain green cloth under printed gray boards. Pages toned.
