The first and only edition of this scarce special edition. Bound in the original publisher's gilt binding, a stunning example of Victorian cloth. Illustrated with a coloured lithograph frontispiece and twelve further coloured plates. With a half title and publication slip from the authors, Messrs. W.H. Kerr and Co., thanking Sir R. Kane for his assistance with the publication tipped in, as called for. Collated, complete. The script for A Midummer Night's Dream, neatly printed in two columns. The elegant illustrations form the centre piece of this special edition. Depicting the wonderful porcelain sculptures of characters fromthe play. Created by Irish sculpture and clergyman, William Boyton Kirk, a member of the Associate of the Royal Hibernian Academy of Arts. Specially produced on the occasion of 'The Great Industrial Exhibition of Ireland' in 1853. Bound in the original publisher's gilt binding. Externally, generally smart though soiled with marking to boards. Heavier to the rear. Cloth to front joint split with rubbing to rear joint. Front hinge starting. Tipped in publisher's leaf working loose. discreet bookseller's label to lower rear paste down. Internally, firmly bound.
