Inscribed and signed by the author to the half title page: 'Mr. Dearman Edwards - with the author's very kind regards. May 1 1895, W.H. Barneby, Bredenbury Court, Herefordshire'. Edwards was another Herefordshire landowner who resided at Brinsop Court. The author travelled across Canada on the newly opened Canadian Pacific Railroad as the guest of the Vice President of the Manitoba and North Western Railway (in the private director's car). The first half of the book is concerned with the Canadian tour, the second half is an account of the return trip via Japan, Hong Kong and Ceylon.
